How to Make Homemade Disinfectant

March 11, 2020

With a run on cleaning sprays and wipes in New Orleans, we know people are looking for what they can do in the face of empty shelves and the need to keep family safe and germ-free!

We have a simple, easy recipe for an effective disinfectant that can be made with ingredients you might already have at home, or at least still on store shelves. This does not replace hand sanitizer (don’t use it for your face, hands, etc.), but is a good surface spray for counters and doorknobs.

Disinfectant Recipe

– 3 cups water

– 1/2 cup white vinegar

– 1/2 cup 80-proof vodka – isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, could also be used

– 30 or so drops of lemon essential oil (or your own favorite smell)

Pour the solution in a spray bottle and go on a germ-killing rampage!
