Family Life, Things To Do

LCM Announces Free Admission on Opening Day

The Louisiana Children’s Museum in City Park has announced it will offer free admission on the grand opening day, Saturday, August 31, noon–7:30 pm. Visitors will be required to reserve tickets before their visit at lcm.org/tickets and must present a ticket for each person in their group to get inside.

LCM’s CEO Julia Bland demonstrates one of the new exhibits during Nola Family’s sneak peek tour on Aug. 8.

“Free admission on opening day is our gift to the community and represents our mission to make the resources at the new museum accessible to all children and caregivers who want to visit,” said Julia Bland, CEO of LCM. “The new location will allow us to better meet the needs of the community as well as improve geographic access and connect children to nature in a way we haven’t been able to before.”

In addition, the museum will have extended hours on Sunday, September 1 and Monday, September 2 of Labor Day weekend, 9:30 am–7:30 pm. Tickets must be reserved online before arrival on these dates as well, but will be sold at the general admission cost of $14 per person. The tickets will be first come, first serve with a limited number available for reservation each day.

On Tuesday, September 3, the museum will return to its normal operating hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 am–4:30 pm, and Sundays, 11:30 am–4:30 pm, with general admission tickets costing $14 per person for adults and children 12 months and older.

The new Louisiana Children’s Museum will welcome families from all over to enjoy the state-of-the-art facility on its 8.5-acre site in the midst of New Orleans’ largest park. Upon opening, special rates will be available to school groups, and LCM members will receive free general admission. Several areas will be open to the public without admission including the talk and play center, the teacher resource center, and Acorn restaurant and its waterfront dining porch.
