Managing Halloween Candy
Ideas on turning candy into coupons, longer tooth brushing and sending our troops a little treat too!
Here are some handy tips for managing candy after Halloween and ending the bad dreams.
A little extra tooth care can go a long way, so have your child brush an extra five seconds for every piece of candy they consume.
Make a great trade by exchanging a certain amount of candy for something else (prize, trip to do something fun, more minutes playing computer game, skip doing something they hate, stay up 15 min late).
Another solution is to give your child a certain number of coupons they must turn in for candy. Allow them to earn more for good behavior and doing chores.
Our troops love candy too! Your child can participate in Operation Gratitude in one of two ways. Any child can bring their candy to a local dentist sponsoring a candy buyback. Your child will earn $1 for every pound of candy they contribute. Elmwood Dental will be weighing and buying candy November 1-5 from 9am-4pm. Families are also encouraged to send candy directly to Operation Gratitude. Your candy package must include donor form found on buyback website.
Help out other parents by handing their goblins and ghouls alternatives to those gooey sweeties. There are so many fun options for those looking for non-candy treats including spider flingers, mini granola bars, Halloween tattoos, Playdoh, juice boxes, glow sticks, vampire fangs, stickers, small bags of carrots, pretzels or crackers, pencils, cheese sticks, bubbles, etc.
