Description:
For a strong primary education combined with the unique qualities of an outdoor country environment, check out Arden Cahill Academy, which is nestled on a 12-acre tract of land along Bayou Fatma in Gretna. Not only does the campus provide state of the art classroom learning facilities, but two vegetable gardens, a horseback riding arena, stables and petting farm help the school provide unique learning experiences outside of the traditional classroom environment.

Arden Cahill focuses on cultural enrichment as one part of its primary education and tradition of academic excellence. Their 300-seat theater, art studios, music rooms and foreign language programs ensure students’ abilities to excel in the arts, while a football field, competition pool, gymnasium and extra-curricular athletics allow students to excel in physical competition as well. To provide family-friendly support services, Arden Cahill Academy offers before and after school care and a specialized Infant Center which accepts children as young as six weeks. Additionally, during summer months, they offer Camp Corral, a 10-week summer camp program with academic enrichment classes.

It is the purpose of Arden Cahill Academy to create a wholesome environment for learning where each child may grow and mature intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and morally to the best of his ability.

Arden Cahill Academy was founded in 1968 by Arden and Harry Cahill as a private academy dedicated to the interest of early childhood education. As the Head Mistress of the academy, Mrs. Cahill chose as the original faculty, Mrs. Diana Wright, Mrs. Joy Vickery, Mrs. Dolly Stakelum, Mrs. Patricia McMullen, and Mrs. Marjorie Snyder. Each of these ladies contributed greatly to the creation and formation of the philosophy of the academy.

Inspired and encouraged by the successful progress and development of the first group of students, Mrs. Cahill made the decision to expand the program and to continue the process of education by adding a grade each year through the elementary school. The first eighth grade graduation was held at Lakewood Country Club in May 1977.

From the very beginning, it was Mrs. Cahill's desire to provide an airy country environment where children could discover and enjoy God's natural gifts along with their pursuit of knowledge. In 1976, a ten-acre tract of land was acquired for the purpose of building a new school. Riding stables and a country farmyard were developed on that property in the summer of 1976 for use in the summer camp program and to offer horseback riding as an extra-curricular activity during the regular school year.
