How to Change a Tire

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare that their child will be on the side of the road with a flat tire and not know what to do. For your kids who may start driving in a few years or who are starting to practice, it is important to teach them the basics of how to change a tire so they can help themselves and others when the time comes.

The Basics of Money Management

While it’s not necessary that every child learns how to balance a checkbook or even how to keep good credit (isn’t it, though?), it is valuable to teach them the basics of money management. Whether that’s learning when to save and when to spend or for older kids or considering when they should get their first debit card, learning how to manage one’s money is an important skill for anyone — their future partners will thank you.

How to do Laundry

This may seem like an obvious one, but learning to do laundry for those kids who don’t already know is something they can learn while quarantined. They can start with observing how you separate clothes, wash, dry, and fold them, and then go on to try it out for themselves.

How to Cook

Cooking is a fun, important skill that every child should be introduced to — and another one their future partners will thank you for. While most cooking involves heat and utilizes tools that aren’t necessarily appropriate for all children, start by letting them help you prep, and when they’re ready, teach them the basics of preparing a meal.

How to Stay Organized

Everyone knows the familiar groan of any child when you ask them to put their toys away or clean their room, but by teaching children how important it is to stay organized, those groans are unlikely to be as obnoxious. Start small by allowing them to sort out their laundry or their toys, and go from there.
