The Girl Scouts Louisiana East branch honored 14 area girls with the highest award available to them, the Gold Award, at a ceremony and reception at the Old Governor’s Mansion in Baton Rouge, June 13.

The Gold Award goes to Girl Scouts who have demonstrated abilities and skills in goal setting, planning, implementing Girl Scout values, and relating to the community. The 14 winners each planned and executed a community service project with a minimum of 80 working hours, which reached beyond the Girl Scout organization and provided a sustainable, lasting benefit to the girls’ larger communities.

Not only does the award set the winners apart during the college college admissions process, but it can also earn them college scholarships and the option to enter the military one rank higher.
