It’s Okay to Cancel that Gym Membership
It’s a problem that many people have had before. On a quest to get more fit or to try and live a healthier lifestyle, you see an ad somewhere advertising your local gym. As if this was a sign from God himself telling you to get off your butt and bulk up, you rush to your laptop filled with hope and sign yourself up for the premium plan that includes multiple locations and 24 hour access. For the next two weeks you go to the gym every day. Then, the third week you only go twice. The fourth week you end up going once and by the fifth week, you’ve stopped all together. Before you know it, it has been a month and you haven’t gone to the gym at all. Rather than cancel your membership, you let it sit and every month it takes out money from your account.
Some people would advise you to use it as fuel to get back into the gym. While there is nothing wrong with that, it’s not the only option. There is such a thing as canceling the membership all together. Depending on where you go to the gym, most will let you cancel the membership at any time unless you signed for a year long or extended commitment. If you didn’t, don’t feel bad about canceling the membership. It doesn’t mean that you are a failure. Sometimes things happen in life and the person that knows what you are capable of in the moment most is you. If you are truly looking at your situation and the gym is more of an inconvenience then you should cancel it. You shouldn’t absolutely dread your next visit to the gym. It should make you feel better, and you should feel motivated and pushed to take on the challenge.
If it doesn’t, don’t feel guilty about canceling the membership. The money that you spent there could be going to something else that can be of great benefit to your health whether that be more money to buy more fresh produce or just going into your savings in order to save up for a nice relaxing getaway to ease your mind. Whatever it is, it should excite you and encourage you to take control of both your physical and mental health.
